My Research
I have completed a BA in History (2007-2011) and the ReMa Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Studies (2011-2014) cum laude at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen/University of Groningen. I have also followed courses at the KNIR (Koninklijk Nederlands Instituut Rome) and the NIT (Netherlands Institute in Turkey). In my BA-thesis I studied the diplomatic relations between the Ottoman Empire and the Mughal Empire in the sixteenth century. I wrote my ReMa-thesis about the political roles of diplomatic gift-exchange between the Dutch Republic and the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in their relations with the Moroccan Sultanate, the Ottoman Empire, the Safavid Empire and the Mughal Empire in the seventeenth century. During my studies I developed my research interests, which include early modern history, early modern diplomacy, diplomatic gift-exchange, VOC-history and Dutch history. I also am greatly interested in the history of the Moroccan, Ottoman, Safavid and Mughal Empires. Currently, I am a PhD-candidate at the University of Groningen.
